The story of the Muezzin who was willing to leave religion because he was enslaved by love

Muslimcreed - In Baghdad, there lived a man known as Salih. His profession is a muezzin. He has been a muezzin for a long time, about forty years. IbnulJauzi in his book Dzammul Hawa explains that he is also a pious and well-behaved man.

Once, he went up to the tower to make the call to prayer. At that time there were no loudspeakers. While going up to the tower, Saleh the muezzin suddenly saw a woman who was the daughter of a Christian man whose house was close to the mosque where Saleh Muezzin was.

Seeing the woman, Saleh fell in love with her. The vibrations of love felt in his chest. He then went down to his house, and knocked on his door. The woman then asked, "Who?"

Saleh then replied, "Saleh Muezzin."

The Christian woman then opened the door for him. When the door opened, Saleh immediately entered and hugged the woman tightly and said, "I want you." The woman also said, “You are the ones who hold the mandate. What treason have you done this!”

Salih replied, "You have to be willing to do what I want. Otherwise, I will kill you."

Hearing Saleh's words, the Christian woman said, "No. Unless you leave your religion." And Saleh replied, "I have separated myself from Islam and what Muhammad has brought"

Saleh then approached the woman. But the woman immediately said, "Indeed you say that because so that you can carry out your intentions and goals, then after that you will return to your religion. Eat pork."

Ordered like that, Saleh obeyed the orders of the woman he loved. Salih, who had been overcome by lust wrapped in love, finally ate pork.

And it didn't end there. After Salih was told to eat pork and eat it, the woman again told him to drink khamer and it was wrong to obey the wishes of the woman who had made him fall in love.

After drinking khamer and the drink has made him drunk. Saleh then tried to approach the woman, but the woman immediately chased him away and closed his house. The woman then said, "Get on the roof, until my father comes. He will marry me to you."

Having been blinded by love and ruled by his lust, Salih finally climbed the roof. However, while climbing onto the roof he fell and eventually died. Seeing this, the Christian woman immediately came out and wrapped Saleh Muadzin with a rug.

Until finally the father came home. And his daughter then told the incident. The father then took out the body of Salih Muezzin at night and threw it on the road.

Between lust and love is sometimes difficult to distinguish, in fact there are many behaviors that are prohibited by religion are often carried out in the name of love. Though it's all just lust that can not be dammed by humans.

Because lust and love are very different. Lust only seeks temporary pleasure, while love is a test, patience and respect. Feelings of love can indeed come to anyone, but if it invites to things that are forbidden in religion and only seeks satisfaction, it is not love. But only lust that leads to disaster.

The story above also warns us all, nothing guarantees that we will be khusnulkhotimah. For that reason, the Messenger of Allah taught us all to always pray and ask Allah for guidance and guidance, one of these prayers is:

رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً  إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

Meaning: O our Lord, do not incline our hearts to misguidance after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Your side, verily You are the giver.

In addition, the story above also teaches us all not to be easily deceived and proud of the righteous deeds we have done. Because we don't know for sure with what Allah swt closes our life story in the world. Because the human heart is between the powers, and of course if He wills will easily turn the hearts of His servants.

Therefore, humans are ordered to always beg him. Including asking for courage, one of which is through a prayer that was said by the Prophet Muhammad:

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوْبِ، ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِيْ عَلَى دِيْنِكَ

O Essence who turns hearts, fix my heart on Your religion.

Besides being ordered to pray, humans are also ordered to subdue their lusts and stay away from actions that are prohibited by religion.
