Historical Events in the Month of Ramadan

A number of historical events occurred in the month of Ramadan, such as the victory of the Muslims in the Battle of Badr, the opening of the city of Mecca or the fatkhu of Mecca, Lailatul Qadar, and the Nuzulul Qur'an or the revelation of the Qur'an. The month of Ramadan is a holy and great month for Muslims. During this holy month, Muslims are required to fast for a whole month.

Running it in the Qur'an In the month of Ramadan, every worship is rewarded multiplied and every believer is encouraged to do good, the month the Qur'an was revealed, the month of patience, fortitude, and various other virtues related to the faith and piety of the Muslims.

The privileges of the month of Ramadan are mentioned in many hadiths of the Prophet SAW, including: الصَّلَوَاتُ الْخَمْسُ الْجُمْعَةُ لَى الْجُمْعَةِ وَرَمَضَانُ لَى رَمَضَانَ اتٌ ا ا اجْتَنَبَ الْكَبَائِرَ “The five daily prayers, between Friday and Friday, between Ramadan and the next Ramadan can erase "There are sins committed in between, if you stay away from major sins." (Sahih Hadith, History of Imam Muslim: 344, and Imam Ahmad: 8830, with the editorial of hadith from the history of Imam Muslim)

1. Nuzulul Quran

The events that occur in the month of Ramadan are Nuzulul Qur'an (the revelation of the Qur'an). The event of Nuzulul Qur'an is usually commemorated every 17th of Ramadan.

The term Nuzulul Qur'an is often understood as the decline of the Qur'an from lauhulmahfuz to Baitul Izzah in the sky of the world. As the word of God, the Qur'an can bring a bright light to the life of the entire universe. Through the instructions given by God, humans can carry out activities properly and correctly so as not to cause damage and harm to other creatures.

As a way of life, the Qur'an brings rules of life in the field of worship and in the social field. In matters of worship, it is usually stated in the science of fiqh which explores the procedures for performing a worship. And in the social field, it is usually discussed in the science of Sufism, which regulates the purpose of human beings and what are the functions of humans created by God.

Therefore, the Nuzulul Qur'an event should be commemorated with worship that increases our good deeds. For example, multiply dhikr, prayer, and other worship to honor the glory of the Koran.

2. Lailatul Qadar

Lailatul Qadar, that is a night better than a thousand months. This night is eagerly awaited by Muslims. Many hope with a mini night, to do various practices in order to have the opportunity to get it. There is a history that shows the characteristics of the arrival of the night of lailatul qadar.

3. Battle of Badr

The Battle of Badr took place on 2 Hijriyah to coincide with the month of Ramadan. In this war, the Muslims were minimal in numbers and equipment for war. Many of them have faith in the Prophet Muhammad as a messenger. They always believe that no matter how tough the enemy is, Allah will always be on the right side. The number of Muslims at that time was only about 313 people and the number of their enemies was in the range of 1000 people.

This number is not a balanced amount. Therefore, before going to war, the Prophet kept asking Allah swt to give victory to the Muslim stronghold. Finally the Prophet's prayer was granted by God, and sent several messengers of Allah as additional soldiers in the stronghold of the Muslims. At the end of the battle, the Muslims managed to win the battle.

4. Fatkhu Makkah

Fatkhu Makkah occurred on the 20th of Ramadan in the year 8 Hijriyah. This was because the Bani Bakr (allies of the Quraysh) were arguing with the Banu Khuza'ah (the allies of Islam).

The Quraysh disbelievers helped the Banu Bakr to attack the Banu Khuza'ah, 20 Khuza'ah people were killed. This means that the Quraysh infidels violated the Hudaibiyah agreement. Rasulullah SAW and 10,000 troops left for the city of Mecca through the 4 directions towards the city of Mecca.

Zubair bin Awam's troops via the north road, Kholid bin Walid's troops via the south road, Sa'ad bin Ubadah's troops via the west road and Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah's troops with Rasulullah SAW through the foot of Mount Hind in the northwest.

So the Muslims could control the city of Mecca without any hindrance from the Quraysh, because they had been hiding in their homes and some were running to the surrounding hills, for fear of the Muslims taking revenge for the crimes they had committed. Then Rasulullah SAW went to the Kaaba and destroyed 360 idols with his stick. While reading the word of God, which means: "The truth has come, falsehood has been destroyed. Truly falsehood has been destroyed." (Surat al-Isro: 81).
